TRIUMPHANT: Sister Souljah and Jada Pinket Smith chat-it-up at LA Times Book Festival.

Hollwood mover and shaker Jada Pinkett Smith chit-chatted it up with Bestselling Author, Activist and MC Sister Souljah this past Saturday at the LA times Book festival. A true Souljah fan, our very own Tony Triumph was one of the first few to check-in via the live chat hosted by Souljah's publisher, Atria books. Presumably 30 minutes late, Souljah arrived on stage in her usual modest pigtails and announced, "Peace, hows everybody feeling? It's good to see you LA!" Then she continued, "Thank you for waiting, they were trying to get me a chair that makes me feel alright." Similar to the way she often describes her own self through novel cameo's, Souljah looked homely but quiet comfortable.

As many readers know, she is responsible for publishing perhaps the most well constructed novel to ever hit the urban fiction market, The Coldest Winter Ever. In fact, alot of the early success of The CWE was the result of an early manuscript read by Jada Pinkett leading to a quality book review as well as many supporters. In the 2011 urban writers market we can't name one writer who doesn't admire this woman's strength of story telling.
Using the LA Times Book Festival as apart of her promo trail for her new book Midnight and the Meaning of Love, her web chat fans seemed highly disinterested in the new book and instead flooded her with endless query's in regards to a long-awaited sequel for The CWE. Though she openly spoke about traveling to Japan, her depiction of Midnight and even the hit VH1 reality show "I Love Hip-hop", unfortunately no questions were answered in regards to Winter Santiaga or The CWE.

For those of you unfamiliar with The Sister Souljah Movement and it's effect not only on African-American's but also America as a whole please educate yourself here. Sister Souljah is just about every aspiring authors favorite author having pinned 3 bestselling novels: No Disrespect, The Coldest Winter Ever, and Midnight: A Gangster Love Story. Hopefully the same success follows for latest work Midnight and the Meaning of Love.
Her solid roster of books not only fulfill a void in black literacy but also provokes food for thought in such a critical matter that it will give you the chills. In 1992, Sister Souljah released her one and only album, 360 Degree's of Power, through Epic/SME Records moving 27,000 units.

Peace!

Just touched down in London Town: Cheers!

Growing-up, obedience is the one thing that I never struggled with yet it is something that I always questioned. Commonly indecisive, I've failed several times at listening to that inner compass of mine and simply going with spirit. Straightforwardly, I am for the most part always overly analytical. Following my own rapidly inclining decision to explore a new land, I finally did so on the 13th of January, 2011. Crossing the Atlantic was easy(and cheap!) thanks to our good friends at Virgin Atlantic airlines. The only hard part was getting through customs! I've arrived though, and the team is settled. With perseverance and Triumph I promise to keep formatting creations that envelope my depiction of Society, Fashion and Big city interests, yet with an edgy London twist! I openly invite each and every one of you to join me on this journey of career expansion, creative enterprise and cultural exploration. Stay tuned, there's a lot this place has to offer ;).

Make sure you all follow me on twitter @tonytriumph10.  Oh, and I won't have much time for TV so please keep me up-to-date on BET's The Game and all other reality TV scoops. :)

Cheers!

Okay Africa! Celebrating Brooklyn w/ The Roots and Talib Kweli....

New York's most eager faces and earthy races paraded the liberal grounds of Park Slope via Prospect park on Sunday. They aligned from the realist regions of every borough and bridge for a complimentary concert hosted by Talib Kweli, The Roots and many others entitled "Okay Africa". Inescapably, most of the vicinity was bombarded by a sea of blankets, beer bottles and wine drinkers who arrived bracing themselves to 'rough it up' for a free show. Every path eventually occupied it's self by mellow scensters, Brooklyn heads, hipsters, their family's and even a few local celebs that were all in gear for a naturalist's side to life. Ethnic forces ruled by a long-shot with some well-intended culture clashing. Negativity failed to align for the most part, thanks to everyone and their arousal of cool Summer spirit. Good times were clearly in fine perspective.

Those grooving masses who had gathered just to swirl it with the The Roots and to catch their edgiest tunes are the ones we found clanging closest to the "bandshell". The Bandshell is Prospect Parks unbelievable performance arena. Some stood for hours, rain or shine. For an added incense with a delicate aroma, Mary-Jane also discretely lingered and stood as the smoothest ice-breaker for anyone unfamiliar with such an easygoing crowd.

I bopped my afro and rocked fist just as uniform as any other Roots supporter, astute and full of approval, a common position for anyone with a fascinating regard to real music.

I"ll definetely keep you all posted for the next venture. In the meantime, don't sleep on Brooklyn! ;-)
Peace, Triumph.

Stop, Pop and SHOP: CEOLA!......

On Thursday evening, I scurried upward of Lexington Avenue for the launch of a modish new 'Pop-up' visitor. Snuggled into a petite storefront in Midtown's Roger Smith Hotel, New York based designer Imani Alexander extends her latest collection with beauty and grace.

Art inspired, The Roger Smith hotel illustrates a new trend of interim retail stores hence the title 'Pop-up Shop'. Trendy names from the underground to the exclusive and even mainstream brands have all joined in on the phenomenon of being able to open up a shop on a temporary time frame. Joining the 'Pop-up' circuit is Ceola. With their tranquil, Caribbean inspired designs, Ceola invites a forgotten femininity back to the city.

Parallel to their subtle vibe, and with a glass of red wine I found myself mingling with the patrons of their opening reception on June 17th. Refreshing designs delighted my eyes as I peered through the designer's rack. Obviously, I could tell Imani Alexander wasn't too obsessed with the madness of this hipster era. Model/DJ Jessi Dash offered us some mellow tunes while guest literally 'popped in' and out of the brief boutique. Some guest included designers LaQuan Smith & Telfar Clemens, Kelly Mills, Mari J Brooklyn, Gwendy Feldman and Arielle Miller.

Debuting in June 2008, Ceola has already protruded success selling out of many of the West Village's finest boutiques. Inspired by Imani Alexanders late grandmother, Ceola's inspiration is to make women feel effeminate and well, 'flattering', a term that loads of female shoppers just cringe at not being able to fulfill. Captivating colors saturated by a fine flowing silk, Ceola adds a suave and elegant touch to any cultured woman. From the docks of St. Tropez, to those gallery openings in Chelsea, and even picnics in Fort Greene, Ceola's beautiful pieces are for all occasions.

Hydration, LIBATION!

On Dec 10th, I attended a Unified and Reviving underground party serving NYC:

Libation,
....
....it is a sheer drench of hydration.

I sensed the brotherly & sisterly "Love", burning smooth with the same identical sincerity to that of a Greek probate. It was bleached with togetherness and good spirit.

Erase all that "Diva-tude" and "Modelista" bullsniff.

Libation is what it is!

Live art that topped the chart!

Bridge & Tunnel crowd stay away! The obnoxious chatter stays at a min, but the cheerful movement reigns at a Max!

Ambiguous. Eccentric. Couture. Spontaneous. Live.

Event Recap: "Pure, beautiful faces saturated into a room of plush, vintage arm-chairs while the Live sounds of Manchildblack catapulted into a room of anxious listeners. Pioneers of beautifully made music graced our ears whilst a multitude of differing faces strung the rooms, completely enjoying the scene. Ambiguous ethnicity's powered a rainbow of complexions ranging from caramel to vanilla peppermint, over to every color inside of a pack of milk chocolate M&M's. African, Asian, Caucasian- Vibrant! Their styles were honorably fresh, spirited and full of art. This was definitely what I'd call an "afro-chic" crowd. A vigorous mix of eclectic ethnicity's aligning to showcase their powerful presence within this enticing soiree."

Libation: Jan 2010 Schedule:

1.) Sullivan Room, 11pm-4am. Thursday, January 14th w/IAN FRIDAY as DJ.

2.) Sullivan Room, 11pm.-4am Thursday, January 28th w/IAN FRIDAY & DJ SABINE.

3.) Sol Ascension for 2010 hosted by Manchildblack, 11pm- 4am. Saturday, January 30th w/DJ MR. V & live performance by LADY ALMA.

Also, Libation will be taking part in the Studio Museum of Harlem event, Vital Expressions: FELA! The event will take place on Sunday, January 10th beginning at 4pm.

Enjoy yourself, and free your mind!
