Dr.Phil touched down on the familiar ground of our young and gossip obsessed for his show yesterday. His featured guest consisted of a guy by the name of Nik Richie. A cyber celebrity whose made quite a nice living for himself through de-faming and humiliating the ill-mannered and trashy offenders of popular local sets.
For those of you not familiar with the site thedirty.com, you can familiarize yourself via the link. Also, here's the full dialogue of Thursdays interview: http://drphil.com/shows/show/1540/
wAnywho, Dr. Phil starts the interview off by asking Mr.Richie a series of questions mostly ranged around his morale for hosting such a "dirty" website. When blasted by Dr. Phil for humiliating the innocent, especially in a new era of cyber-bullying, he firmly stated that he does not ruin lives, that it's user based, and that their is a market for what he is doing.
He also believes that it's just entertainment. “I think people like to see their neighbor get to a certain point and fall.” Nik says.--True, for some.
Next, Dr. Phil introduced a young woman by the name of Bruna Araujo who is a former aspiring model. A "hater" as she describes, stole a modeling photo from her Myspace page only to submit it to thedirty.com labeling her a "transvestite", and stating that she had STD's and committed an act of incest by having a sex with her step-father as payment for breast implants. Bruna could barely hold back tears as she sat with Dr. Phil and confronted Nik Richie of thedirty.com. "My life was ruined by this guy." She said.
When Dr. Phil asked Mr. Richie if he cared about her feelings his blatant response was "No". He went on to then say that because of her orange colored skin, attire, and pose- what he describes as a typical for a "dirty" girl- as the reason why he approved the post to begin with. Then he stated that if she had looked like she looked today in her photos that he may not have approved the post.
Mr. Richie's wife showed up next, who he had only known 24 hours prior there six month marriage(LOL!). A reality show celebrity by the name of Shayne Lamas who actually disagrees with her husbands website but states that she is proud of him for taking such a simple form of entertainment and launching it into something so profitable. Shayne also had some encouragement for Bruna Araujo who she told her NOT to let the works of her husband deter her from going after her dreams. She also stated that a model is a high profile career and that you have to have tough skin for it. Bruna, still disgusted merely rolled her eyes and shook her head.
Well...Great eposide Dr. Phil, definitely learned a lot about how to protect myself on the web. So I'll close with this: Exploitation is WRONG! No stranger on this God given earth merits enough power to rob anyone of their innocence or public dignity. Bruna has since ended up right back on thedirty.com! C'mon Mr. Richie, give the girl a break.
Be safe out here in this cyber world, y'all.
Triumph
