"Ay-yo', ay-yo, ay-yo, ay-yo'!"
Glistening legs, long wavy hair and pink YSL pumps, it doesn't sound much like the essence of a starving artist throwing a 'rent party'. Settled into a retro themed Brooklyn apartment, the mellow songstress powers a silhouette relative to the essence of today's young black supermodel. 'Ay-yo' allows the fresh faced, Melanie Fiona to portray a triumphant, low-income artist struggling to pay rent, quite a familiar story to us major city dwellers. Undoubtedly, Melanie pushes her silky, smooth vocals to the rescue of her candid dilemma through this compelling R&B/Jazz melody. 'Ay-yo'' touches me as a mainstream, catchy tune destined for play everywhere from Normandie & Western to Flatbush Ave. According to Ms. Fiona, "Everybody has a purpose and nothing in life happens by chance." So while Melanie steered her voice and rent bucket to the roof, Tony Triumph led anxious listeners to the top. Brooklyn heads scattered amongst a Bohemian themed rooftop(shot in LA) with Melanie chanting a soulful, "Ay-yo' rise up let me see your heads high, and if your with it put your hands up in the sky. And I'm goin' rock it to the fullest in this life. 'Cause I'ma give it all I've got before I die. 'Ay-yo', Ay-yo', Ay-yo', Ay-yo'".
Canadian born, Melanie Fiona approaches the world of music quite gracefully with her familiar lyrics and easy going music video's. Her melody's are conventional, a safe and sure way to mold any new talent into a strong image. Though 'Ay-yo's music video seemed to slightly shadow the identical 'laid back' theme of Kelly Rowland's 'Daylight' music video, which I also coincidentally made a cameo in back in 2007, I found the entire vibe of 'Ay-yo' to be tons more structured and refreshing. Without a doubt, Melanie has a contemporary appeal and a beautiful, ambiguous essence. I don't know what her management has in store for her but she seems to be very cautious and focused on taking the Triumphant road: easy-going and subtle. I'm thoroughly prepared for Ms. Fiona to keep us guessing as she matures into stardom. What do you think?
Check out the finished project below. ;-)
Peace,
Tony Triumph
